Six Months Old

Hard to believe our baby's half a year old!  We took his picture immediately after a bath and right before nap time. That's why he looks half asleep.  But he's so mobile, we were just happy to get him to sit still for a minute.

crawling

Nate's been working on the crawl since early December but now he's up on his hands and knees most of the time.  It is amazing to watch his progression day-to-day.  Two clips below taken a day apart and you can see that he's steadier on Friday than he was on Thursday.

My favorite thing about the first video is the look on Nate's face when Aaron comes home from work.  This happens every time his Dad walks into the room.  So precious.  You'll also see two of Nate's favorite things - the dog and trying to walk.  He loves Guinness and constantly tries to reach out and pet him.  Guinness prefers not to be bothered.

He is also quite adept at pulling himself up to a standing position.  You name it, he'll use it to help himself stand including the coffee table, bookshelves, mommy and even the other kids at daycare.  I tried to get video of the standing but it's tough to capture when I'm also his spotter.

bumps and bruises

Remember when we used to put Nate down somewhere and he was in the exact same place 5 seconds later?  The good ol days.

a new trick

Today brought a second tooth and a new trick, pulling himself up.  He tried it out last night but he seemed to have a long way to go.  So imagine my surprise when I picked him up at daycare and Tania told me he'd managed to pull himself up just like the big kids.  And then he performed for us by puling himself up on his crib.  Aaron quickly learned how to lower the crib mattress.  Between this and the crawling, tomorrow you can find us shopping for baby proofing tools.

a tooth

That's the big news here.  Nate's been showing signs of teething for months now but last night we felt the first little tooth poking through his lower gum.  Nate doesn't seem too bothered by it (yet).

2011

I've begun a project for 2011 that was inspired by my friend Dawn.  She took at least one picture of her son every day for his first full calendar year.  The result was a great arrangement of Anderson's year and a snapshot of his adventures.  And for me, it was a nice way to watch him grow up since they live in California and we rarely get to see each other.

So in 2011 I am going to try and catch Nate at least once a day.  People keep telling us he's growing and changing so much but it's hard to see when we look at him every day.  I think it will be fun to see the changes as they occur, little by little.

I'm still trying to figure out where to catalog the pictures so if someone wants to see them, they can flip through a calendar of his pictures.  (Please pass along recommendations if you have them.)  For now, I just have the last few days in a set on flickr.  So far, off to a good start!
